UN Human Rights Council pledging event in New York: States set out their vision and commitments as candidates to the Human Rights Council

At an event organised and held in New York on 15 July 2015 by Amnesty International and the International Service for Human Rights together with Botswana, Brazil and the Netherlands, eight candidates to the Human Rights Council discussed their aspirations and vision of membership on the UN’s main human rights body. The candidates elaborated on their pledges and commitments in submitting their candidature, and were questioned on how they would work as members to address human rights violations and to strengthen the work of the Council. In an interactive dialogue, candidates responded to a wide range of human rights questions raised by the audience in the room and via Twitter.
