On 26 April 2023, Palestinian national Dr Hani al-Khudari was released from prison in Saudi Arabia after four years of arbitrary detention following an unfair trial before the notorious Specialized Criminal Court (SCC). Although Dr Hani al-Khudari’s three-year prison sentence ended on 28 February 2022, he remained detained for another year and two months. Dr Hani al-Khudari was arbitrarily arrested with his father, Dr Mohammed al-Khudari, on 4 April 2019 and remained in detention without charges until 8 March 2020. Both men were subjected to gross human rights violations, including enforced disappearance, arbitrary arrest and detention, and were held incommunicado and in solitary confinement.
