Abductions of civilians by armed groups have become a daily feature of post-al-Gaddafi Libya. They have increased dramatically with the escalation of armed conflicts since mid-2014. Most Libyans today know of a friend, colleague or family member who has fallen victim to such abductions. Many others live in fear of being kidnapped and tortured.
