As Malawi approaches its 2025 general election, this presents a significant opportunity for the incoming government to advance and prioritize human rights. Amnesty International calls on the government to ensure respect for human rights before, during and after the elections. We call on the government to fulfil its promise to “clear the rubble of impunity;” to operationalize the Access to Information Act and other laws protecting human rights; and to ensure government transparency and accountability and an end to impunity for human rights violations.
