Protecting the human rights of LGBTI people during the COVID-19 pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic, while affecting almost all people and communities around the world, is having a disproportionate impact on vulnerable groups. This includes lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people who have been historically marginalized in the allocation of recourses, faced discrimination in access to health care, employment and housing, and have faced targeted criminalization laws, harassment, intimidation, arbitrary arrests, and killings by state and non-state actors. This crisis, and the individual government responses to it are likely to add to the discrimination resulting in LGBTI people facing a unique set of challenges through this pandemic.
