Index Number: ASA 17/009/1990

This report updates the AI document “Preliminary findings on killings of unarmed civilians, arbitrary arrests and summary executions since 3 June 1989” (ASA 17/60/89). Serious human rights violations continue to occur in China: AI has not recorded any significant improvement since August 1989. Thousands are still imprisoned for their participation in the 1989 pro- democracy protests and arbitrary arrests, incommunicado detention without charge or trial, unfair trials and executions have continued.
