In this briefing Amnesty International documents the deterioration of the rule of law and lack of respect for human rights in Poland in 2020 and 2021. It provides details about Poland’s ongoing failure to comply with the interim measures of the Court of Justice of the EU requiring an immediate suspension of the new system of disciplinary proceedings against judges. This failure has serious implications on the situation of individual judges and independence of the judiciary in Poland in general. Amnesty International calls on EU Member States to respond to this serious situation and to urge the Government of the Republic of Poland to restore the rule of law.
