In Nigeria, the civic space continues to shrink. Nigerian authorities have carried out consistent attack on journalists and media activists through verbal and physical assault, indiscriminate arrest, torture, detention, prosecution through trumped-up charges and abuse of the Cybercrime and Terrorism laws. This research documents these attacks and the failure of the Nigerian authorities to investigate these human rights violations and hold perpetrators to account. The Nigerian authorities as a matter of urgency should ensure that journalists and media activists can do their work without fear of attack.
