Saudi Arabia: Amnesty International Submission to the UN Universal Periodic Review: Fourth session of the UPR Working Group of the Human Rights Council, February 2009

In this submission, Amnesty International provides information as stipulated in the General Guidelines for the Preparation of Information under the Universal Periodic Review. Amnesty International describes some of the factors which undermine the human rights framework in Saudi Arabia. The organization also highlights concerns about human rights violations in Saudi Arabia, including arbitrary arrest and incommunicado detention, indefinite detention without charge or trial, imprisonment of prisoners of conscience, unfair trials, detention beyond expiry of sentence, torture and other ill-treatment, the death penalty and discrimination.
