Amnesty International welcomes the opportunity to contribute to the report of the Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples on Protected Areas and Indigenous Peoples’ Rights: the Obligations of States and International Organizations. We would like to bring to the Special Rapporteur’s attention a number of cases that we have been working on or which have been brought to our attention, that illustrate particular aspects of how protected areas and other conservation initiatives impact on Indigenous peoples’ rights. The submission will be structured around some of the questions laid out by the Special Rapporteur in the call for submissions.
