The right to enjoy human rights without discrimination is one of the most fundamental principles underlying international human rights law, appearing in virtually every major human rights instrument. Yet discriminatory practices continue, including in Iran, Israel and the Occupied Territories and Sudan, three situations which are highlighted in this document. Amnesty International also takes the opportunity of this meeting to repeat its call for the establishment of an investigation commission to examine widespread and systematic attacks against trade unionists in Colombia. Building on efforts made last year, the organization is also raising its concerns about slavery and slavery-like practices in Mauritania.
