Free Rokiatou Doumbia

In August, Rokiatou Doumbia was sentenced to ten years imprisonment, including seven years to be served in prison and three years suspended, after speaking out about rising living costs in Mali. Sign the petition to call for her immediate and unconditional release.

What’s the problem?

Rokiatou Doumbia didn’t just speak about hardship – she worked to help people through it. A business owner, activist and social media influencer, she created an association to help women start small businesses and organized food distributions for people in need.

Through TikTok, where she became known as “Rose Poivron” (“Bell Pepper Rose”), she also gave thousands of people a place to speak openly about daily hardships and rising food prices.

Then she became a target herself.

In March 2023, after criticizing rising living costs and Mali’s military authorities during a TikTok livestream, Rokiatou was arrested and charged with several offences. Although two of the charges were later quashed, in August 2026, Rokiatou was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment, including seven years to be served in prison and three years suspended for “discrediting the state” and “criminal conspiracy”.
