Free lawyer in Tunisia
Sonia is a lawyer who has dedicated her life to defending human rights in Tunisia. In 2024, she was arrested and unjustly imprisoned for 18 months. Her crime? Speaking out against racism and inhumane prison conditions. Sign the petition and demand that her convictions are quashed and all other charges against her are dropped.
What’s the problem?
Sonia is a lawyer and media commentator who has dedicated her life to defending human rights. She stands up for the marginalized, saying what others are afraid to, no matter the cost. A vocal critic of inhumane prison conditions and racism, she regularly addresses these issues on television and radio shows.
On 11 May 2024, masked policemen raided the Tunisian Bar Association in Tunis and arrested Sonia. They detained her in Manouba prison for 18 months. The Tunisian authorities convicted and sentenced Sonia on unfounded charges of “spreading false news”, with more politically motivated judicial proceedings still pending. On 27 November 2025, Sonia was released from prison.
She should never have been detained in the first place. She was locked up and silenced for speaking out. Sonia has been conditionally released, but still faces other cases against her.
Nobody should be imprisoned and intimidated for speaking out against injustices.
What can you do to help?
Sign the petition calling on the Tunisian authorities to quash Sonia’s unjust sentences and immediately drop all other charges against her.
