Asian leaders urged to take further action on Myanmar

Amnesty International has called on Asian leaders to take urgent action to prevent further human rights violations in Myanmar. In an open letter to ASEAN member states, the organization’s Secretary General, Irene Khan, warned that without immediate action by ASEAN leaders, the humanitarian disaster created by Cyclone Nargis and the deliberate obstruction to aid by the Myanmar authorities will result in further massive human rights violations, putting at risk the lives and health of hundreds of thousands of people.
