China: Submission to the NPC Standing Committee’s Legislative Affairs Commission on the Draft “Supervision Law”

Index Number: ASA 17/7553/2017

Amnesty International’s position is that many provisions of the Draft Law appear to be incompatible with China’s international human rights obligations, whether embodied in treaties and other instruments, or under customary international law. The Draft Law would legalize a form of arbitrary detention and create a new extra-judicial system with far reaching powers that has significant potential to infringe human rights.
