Zimbabwe: Deteriorating human rights situation: Amnesty International submission to the UN Universal Periodic Review November 2016

In this submission, Amnesty International expresses concern that both the government of Zimbabwe and local authorities continue to forcibly evict thousands of people without due process or adequate housing alternatives. Amnesty International is also concerned about the persistent failure to hold to account members of the security forces responsible for human rights violations, including abductions and enforced disappearances of government critics and arbitrary arrest of human rights defenders and journalists. Zimbabwe retains the death penalty and over one hundred persons remain on death row despite the fact that no executions is known to have been carried out since 2005.
