The above-named, an industrialist from Nablus on the West Bank, was issued with a six-month detention order in September 1990. In his appeal against the order in October 1990, it was alleged that he was a senior activist in the al-Fatah faction of the Palestine Liberation Organization. Salah al- Masri denied the charges; his appeal was rejected. Salah al-Masri has had a punctured lung since 1981: his medical condition has been monitored constantly. AI cannot yet say if Salah al-Masri is a prisoner of conscience. The organization is also concerned that he may not have been given an adequate opportunity to challenge his detention.
