They have reportedly been arrested for trying to leave the country illegally. The exact date of their arrest is unclear and there is concern that the real reason for their arrest may be politically motivated, and that the two men may be prisoners of conscience. There is no further information on the whereabouts of Parvin Ardalan, who has reportedly not been seen since 24 January 1997.
