Wayne Bates, white, is scheduled to be executed on 1 December 1993. If it is carried out, this will be the first execution in Tennessee since 1960. He was convicted and sentenced to death in 1987. He has a long history of mental illness, and has dropped his appeals and dismissed his lawyer.
