Israel and the Occupied Territories: ‘Abdullah ‘Afif Zakarneh – administrative detention

The above-named, who comes from the Jenin area in the West Bank, was arrested on 1 July 1991 and issued with a six-month detention order. He is currently being held in the Ketziot detention centre. He appealed against his order and at a hearing held on 28 August 1991, non-classified evidence revealed to him and to his lawyer alleged that he was an activist in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (a faction of the Palestine Liberation Organization). His sentence, however, was reduced by 15 days and he is now due for release on 16 December 1991. Amnesty International is concerned that he may not be given and adequate opportunity to challenge his order.
