This joint submission by Amnesty International and the Center for International Environmental Law emphasizes how human rights and equity-based approaches to addressing loss and damage are essential to ensure that those who have lived experience of climate impacts are in the driver’s seat of determining appropriate redress for the harms suffered; to push past voluntary finance towards an obligation to provide reparations; and ensure that human rights are protected, respected and promoted in the context of addressing the impacts of the climate crisis.
