Viet Nam: Open letter: Urgent request for intervention in the case of prisoner of conscience Trần Thị Thúy

Prisoner of conscience Trần Thị Thuy, serving an eight year sentence, is being denied proper and effective medical care for serious health problems, on the grounds of her refusal to confess to the crimes for which she was convicted. These include three tumours, one of which is ulcerating and bleeding through her clothing, and is at risk of infection. She is in severe pain and believes she will die in prison. This treatment is in violation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and the Convention against Torture (CAT), to which Viet Nam is a state party.
