There is concern for the health of long-term prisoner of conscience Cho Sang-nok. He was arrested by the Agency for National Security and Planning in January 1978 and allegedly subjected to torture during 17-days’ incommunicado detention. He was convicted under the National Security Law and sentenced after an unfair trial to life imprisonment. He is being held in solitary confinement and is reported to be in poor mental and physical health. Amnesty International is calling for his immediate and unconditional release and for him to be given appropriate medical treatment.
