Oral statement on the outcome on Sri Lanka under the Universal Periodic Review
Amnesty International (AI) and Human Rights Watch (HRW) are alarmed that extrajudicial, summary and arbitrary killings continue. Given the deteriorating human rights situation in Sri Lanka AI and HRW are disappointed to note that Sri Lanka has been unable to support the recommendation to establish an independent human rights monitoring mechanism. Finally Amnesty International welcomes the recommendation that the government will increase its efforts to further prevent cases of kidnapping, forced disappearances and extrajudicial killings and ensure that all perpetrators are brought to justice.
