On Sunday 8 February, Egyptian security forces dispersing a crowd of football supporters used excessive force with reckless disregard for the consequences and with fatal results. At least 22 fans of the Zamalek football club died when police fired tear gas forcing fans into a stampede as they tried to enter a game in New Cairo.
