Federal Republic of Germany: The alleged ill-treatment of Azad Kahn Fegir Ahmad, Noorol Hak Hakimi and Mohammed Nabi Schafie

AI is concerned by reports that the three Afghan asylum-seekers named above were ill-treated by about 12 masked police officers on 6 June 1995. The police allegedly conducted a violent search of their accomodation, breaking some of their possessions, including a TV set. It later emerged that the police had got the wrong accomodation: they were looking for a Moroccan man who, it had been reported, was forcibly detaining a woman and who was supposedly armed. (The police later located this man, who offered no resistance, and established that the woman was in fact staying with him of her own free will.) The police have acknowledged this mistake and an apology was made to the men. An investigation has been opened into the incident.
