This joint open letter to the new co-chairs of the Fund for responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD), co-signed by over 20 civil society organizations, calls on the Fund’s Board to explicitly choose a path that centres rights and people in all further policies and modalities of the FRLD, in line with states’ international human rights obligations, as recently affirmed by international courts. This is necessary if the FRLD is to fulfil the vision for it to be an institution anchored in the realities and needs of marginalized groups and communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis, which other climate funds have struggled to fulfil.
