Amnesty International welcomes this opportunity to provide input to the five-year review of the state of implementation of the Council of Europe Charter on Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education. Human rights education and training (HRE) is one of Amnesty International’s core objectives and is at the heart of the organization’s work. In 2021, Amnesty’s HRE Network reached over 4 million people and led more than 728 thousand supporters to take action to defend human rights in 212 countries and territories, 86% of them being young people. Amnesty International advocates for a holistic approach to high-quality human rights education in national, regional and international policies and educational systems.
