Philomene Mukabarali was arrested at her home on 19 December 1997. She had been undergoing treatment for advanced carcinoma of the breast at a private clinic in Belgium, returning to Rwanda in November 1997. Initially she was denied access to medication, but is now able to receive it and has supplies to last until May. AI is appealing for her release to enable her to seek the medical treatment she requires.
