Amnesty International welcomes the focus of the draft resolution currently tabled at the Human Rights Council on the right of older persons to live free of violence, abuse, and neglect, and calls on member states to support the establishment of an international treaty on the rights of older persons. This public statement is based on an oral statement Amnesty prepared to be delivered to the Human Rights Council on 15 September 2023, on the occasion of the interactive dialogue with the Independent Expert on the enjoyment of all human rights by older persons.
