Kyrgyzstan: Rustam Abdullin, Aleksandr Shirokov

An unofficial source reports that Rustam Abdullin and Aleksandr Shirokov were sentenced to death on 12 May 1994 by the City Court in Bishkek for premeditated aggravated murder. The Supreme Court rejected their appeal on 21 June 1994. Both men were only 18 at the time of the murder and sources have raised concerns that the court verdicts are unsound. There have also been allegations that confessions which formed the main evidence against them were coerced. Rustam Abdullin reportedly suffers from a nervous skin complaint but claims that he has been denied medication and access to a doctor.
