Indonesia: Exploitation and abuse: the plight of women domestic workers (summary)

This document is a summary of ASA 21/001/2007. Domestic workers in Indonesia are particularly vulnerable to abuse and exploitation due to a lack of legal protection of their rights. In 2006, the Ministry of Manpower produced a draft for specific national legislation concerning the protection of domestic workers. However, the draft is weak and lacks several fundamental guarantees of workers’ right. Amnesty International urges the government of Indonesia to amend the legislation so that and to take all necessary steps to protect domestic workers in Indonesia.
