Amnesty International expresses deep concern over human rights violations in Cuba, highlighting the repression of freedom of expression and assembly, especially following the July 2021 protests that led to mass incarcerations and the adoption of a more restrictive Penal Code. Despite previous commitments to the dignified treatment of prisoners, continuous violations of due process and mistreatment are reported. The Cuban government is urged to release prisoners of conscience, cease surveillance and arbitrary detentions, repeal laws limiting freedom of expression, and adopt international human rights measures, including the abolition of the death penalty.
