The death penalty: list of abolitionist and retentionist countries (September 1995)

This document provides lists of countries which retain the death penalty, and those which are abolitionist for all crimes, for ordinary crimes only, those which are de facto abolitionist, as well as those countries which have abolished the death penalty since 1976. These lists show that for the first time more than half the countries in the world are abolitionist in law or practice.
