Nepal: Open Letter - Universal Children's Day - 20 November 2005. Continuing Attacks on Schools by the CPN (Maoist).
In this open letter Amnesty International urges the Communist Party of Nepal on the occasion of Universal Children's Day to call for the CPN (Maoist) declaration of a unilateral ceasefire on 3 September 2005 to be followed by an end to the pattern of violence and intimidation which continues to affect the lives of many children in Nepal. Amnesty International urges all CPN (Maoist) cadres to abide by international humanitarian law; end the targeting of schools, abduction of children and teachers and ensure that all cadres respect and protect children's rights during their operations and in areas under their control.
