USA (Oklahoma)Scotty Lee MOORE, aged 42
Scotty Lee Moore was executed by lethal injection in Oklahoma shortly after
midnight, local time, on 3 June 1999. He had been sentenced to death in 1984
for the murder of clerk Alex Fernandez in the course of an armed robbery at
a motel in Oklahoma City on 18 November 1983.
The Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board rejected Scotty Moore’s appeal for clemency
on 18 May, by four votes to one. It remains unclear what would move the Board
to vote for clemency in a death penalty case. Scotty Moore appealed on the
grounds of the alleged lack of objectivity of the Board, but was unsuccessful.
Scotty Moore became the 16
person to be put to death in Oklahoma since the
state resumed executions in 1990, and the 548
person put to death nationwide
since the USA resumed judicial killing in 1977. Forty-eight prisoners have
been executed so far in 1999.
No further action is requested by the UA Network. Many thanks to all those
who sent appeals on behalf of Scotty Moore.
