This document tracks the timeline from 11 September 2001 and the crashing of hijacked planes into the World Trade Center, to the transfer of hundreds of detainees to Guantánamo and trails convened under the Military Commissions Act of 2006 and abuses in the "war on terror". This timeline ends on 11 December 2008 with the Portuguese Foreign Minister saying that Portugal is willing to accept Guantánamo detainees who cannot return to their home countries.
