In this submission, Amnesty International expresses concerns in relation to the normative and institutional framework of the State and the promotion and protection of human rights on the ground. Amnesty International is particularly concerned about the judicial system, protection of the rights of the child; internally displaced persons; violence against women and girls; impunity; prolonged pre-trial detention and prison overcrowding. Hundreds of thousands of people have been left homeless by the earthquake and the impact of the earthquake has also compounded chronic long-term weaknesses in government efforts to protect and promote human rights.
