Free Marwa Arafa
Egyptian human rights activist Marwa Arafa has spent more than six years in prison because of her peaceful activism. Sign the petition and demand her immediate, unconditional release.
What’s the problem?
Marwa Arafa dedicated herself to helping some of Egypt’s most vulnerable children and their families. An Egyptian human rights activist, translator and mother, Marwa showed solidarity with detainees, spoke out against abuses facing children and helped families with the costs of prison visits.
Then her own family was torn apart.
In April 2020, Egyptian security forces raided the home where Marwa was staying and forcibly disappeared her for two weeks. She was later referred to trial on unfounded terrorism-related charges and has now spent more than six years in arbitrary detention solely because of her peaceful activism. If convicted, she could face life imprisonment.
Marwa’s daughter was just two years old when she watched her mother being arrested. Now eight, she continues to struggle deeply with the separation. Meanwhile, Marwa’s health has seriously deteriorated in prison, where she has been denied adequate healthcare.
By adding your name, you’ll join thousands of people around the world calling on the Egyptian authorities to immediately and unconditionally release Marwa and drop all charges against her.
