Free Ayachi Hammami
Human rights lawyer Ayachi Hammami is imprisoned simply for defending human rights. Sign the petition calling on Tunisia’s president to immediately and unconditionally release him.
What’s the problem?
Ayachi Hammami has spent decades defending people whose rights were under attack. A respected human rights lawyer, husband, father and grandfather, he represented lawyers, judges, journalists and opposition figures prosecuted simply for speaking out peacefully.
Then the authorities turned on him.
After Ayachi defended people accused in Tunisia’s so-called “conspiracy case”, the Tunisian authorities prosecuted him in the very same case. Following a trial that lasted only minutes, he was sentenced to prison. He is now serving an unjust five-year sentence solely for his peaceful human rights work and for carrying out his professional duties as a lawyer.
Ayachi has already endured a 45-day hunger strike to protest his arbitrary detention. His imprisonment has also robbed him of precious moments with his family, including the chance to meet his newest granddaughter.
Your action can help increase international pressure on the Tunisian authorities. Around the world, Amnesty supporters have helped secure the release of people unjustly imprisoned by showing governments that the world is watching.
