Overview

Germany deported 28 individuals to Afghanistan in violation of the principle of non-refoulement. Reports persisted of excessive use of force by police during peaceful protests by climate activists and supporters of Palestinians’ rights. A crackdown continued on expressions of solidarity with Palestinians. Legislation passed in October disproportionately reduced benefits for asylum seekers and extended biometric surveillance and police checks, without a reasonable suspicion standard, increasing the risk of racial profiling.
