This document is a collection of statements delivered during the first main session of the Human Rights Council that took place from 19 to 30 June, 2006. These include Amnesty’s welcoming of the Council with advice on the way forward and making the most of this opportunity. There is also a brief background description on why and how the Council was set up to replace the pre-existing Commission on Human Rights.
