Colombia: The Peace Community of San José de Apartadó: Communities in resistance in Colombia
The 40-year internal armed conflict has devastated the lives of millions in Colombia. Some communities have come together to demand that all the warring parties respect their rights as civilians not to be drawn into the conflict. One such community is the Peace Community of San José de Apartadó and they have paid a heavy price for their principled stand. In this document Amnesty International urges the Colombian authorities to guarantee the safety of Community members and to bring those responsible for killings and threats to justice.
