Oral statement: Urgent Debate Belarus UN Human Rights Council Forty-Fifth Session: 14 September – 6 October 2020

In this oral statement, delivered at the 45th Session of the Human Rights Council in an Urgent Debate on Belarus, Amnesty International gave testimony on an alarming escalation of human rights violations in recent months, including growing evidence of a campaign of widespread torture; urged the Council to establish an investigation into all human rights violations committed in the context of this crackdown; called for the immediate and unconditional release of Maryia Kalesnikava and all others who have been detained and persecuted merely for exercising their human rights; and urged full accountability for the perpetrators of such violations.
