Yugoslavia: Idriz Gervalla

The above-named, a lawyer who has acted as defence counsel in political trials of ethnic Albanians in Kosovo, was arrested on 21 March 1991. He was sentenced to 60 days’ imprisonment by the local magistrate’s court for “having caused disruption to public order”. He is being held in the district prison in Pristina. Idriz Gervalla was previously detained in late December after police had found copies of the Albanian-language magazine Alternativa in his house. During that detention he was reportedly kept in freezing conditions and contracted pneumonia as a result. He suffers from asthma and his general health is said to be poor.
