The Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe (CSCE): the Budapest Review Conference and protection of human rights

In this contribution to the Budapest Review Conference (10 October – 2 December 1994), AI has made 8 sets of recommendations, which, it believes, could improve the capacity of the CSCE to implement its own human rights dimension commitments. The recommendations address the following areas: on-site visits; human rights in CSCE long-term missions; human rights in CSCE peace-making, peace-keeping and peace-building; the CSCE and situations of gross or systematic violations of human rights; relationship with NGOs; protecting human rights defenders; implementing existing human dimension commitments and gap-filling; and the place of the human dimension within the CSCE.
