Zaire: Hidden from scrutiny: human rights abuses in eastern Zaire

This report highlights the belief of Amnesty International that gross human rights abuses were committed in South-Kivu from September to November 1996 by Zairian soldiers, civilian militias and the Alliance of Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Congo-Zaire (AFDL). It fears that similar abuses are still being committed today, and Amnesty International appeals to all parties involved in the conflict to stop human rights abuses and to allow full access to the region to those charged with investigating human rights violations.
