Jamaica: Further information on Death Penalty/Legal Concern

Steve Shaw, Desmond Taylor, Beresford Whyte. Steve Shaw and Desmond Taylor have been granted stays of execution until Friday 16 April 1999. They had been scheduled to hang on 13 April. Their executions were stayed after constitutional motions were filed at the Jamaican High Court on 12 April. Lawyers representing Beresford Whyte, who is scheduled to be hanged on 15 April, are expected to request a stay of execution on 13 or 14 April.
