China: Judges and Torture.

This paper highlights why everyone – particularly judges – should help to fight torture and what judges can do to help stop torture, in particular when they hear cases in which allegations of torture are made. The paper cites rules against torture set out in international law and the safeguards required by law to help prevent torture. This paper also refers to provisions against torture in Chinese law and to China’s international obligations on this issue.
