Croatia: Existing laws are failing victims of domestic violence: Amnesty International Submission for the UN Universal Periodic Review, 36th Session of the UPR Working Group, 2-13 November 2020

In this submission, Amnesty International evaluates the implementation of recommendations made to Croatia in its previous Universal Periodic Review. It assesses the national human rights framework with regard to existing legal and policy measures designed to address widespread domestic violence and the definition of rape, raises concerns about persisting challenges facing women’s access to legal and safe abortion and sexual and reproductive rights and concerns about systemic pushbacks and collective expulsions of refugees and migrants and the allegations of frequent and brutal violence perpetrated by the Croatian police against them.
